Choose a story no more than 20 minutes long.
Check the language level of your children. If the child can understand 80% with images, it's a good story.
Match their interests, like animals, family members, people from other cultures, magic, and emotions.
Make sure it's not too babyish or too mature.
Use vocabulary familiar to your children.
If the story is too long, divide the reading sessions into two or three.
Stories with audio or video versions are a great help.
Stories with repeated structures are great for memorization and confidence.
